Are You Ready to Live Life as a Digital Nomad?

The idea of being able to live virtually anywhere in the world while earning an income might seem like a dream for many people, but there are tons of people living this dream at this very moment. It’s not all roses, however, and you have to know what to prepare for. This is especially true if you’ve never traveled outside of your country before. Let’s take a look at some of the things you have to be prepared for if you want to live as a digital nomad.

Living Away from Your Friends and Family

If this is your first time traveling alone, you have to first know if you can handle being away from your friends and people you are close to in your family before you leave. So, it could be a good idea to go on a prolonged trip on your own first to see how you handle things. It doesn’t have to be in the country you are thinking of going to, but it has to be far enough for you to feel isolated. Stay in this area for a week and try to make acquaintances around the area. If it comes naturally to you and you don’t feel too lonely, then you could have what it takes to be a digital nomad.

Are You Willing to Invest in a Good Setup?

Your equipment will be everything when you live as a digital nomad. Losing your computer, or having it die on you could be disastrous if you’re in a foreign country and you rely on your computer for revenue. This is why you will need to have good equipment, but also backup equipment in case your main equipment fails gets lost, or gets stolen.

It could be a good idea to invest in a regular laptop and a Chromebook. And, if you want your Chromebook to be just as performant as your main laptop, make sure that it has a processor over 2ghz if possible and a decent integrated GPU like an Intel Arc Graphics card or one of their Iris models.

In addition, you will need to look for a power bank. You never know when one of your devices will die on you or if you will end up not having access to electricity for a prolonged period. Get a power bank with at least 20,000mah of power with ports for any devices that you have.

Have You Looked into Insurance and Visas?

Getting good insurance will be extremely important when traveling. You need insurance to cover medical bills and evacuation, loss or theft, or trip interruptions. You also have to take the time to look at the visa requirements for any country you are thinking of staying at. You have to know what the fees are, how to apply, and what their requirements are for stays and renewals.

These are all things you will have to be ready for before you even think about becoming a digital nomad. If you want to be sure that you’re ready, it could be a good idea to speak with nomads in the country you are considering and ask them for as much information as you can.
