Foodie, are you? Yeah, well, aren’t we all? Well, we are all foodies in our own ways and if you are a foodie, there is just no way that you don’t have a microwave oven! Well, even if you don’t cook, you are sure to have a microwave oven because they make cooking so much easier, even for those who can’t cook. Plus, they can also be used for defrosting or heating up your food.

You can also use it to roast already marinated chicken or fish or paneer and other such food items. A microwave oven can also be used for convection. Well, the list doesn’t end. It can be used for a huge variety of things. But the most important thing is to take proper care of the microwave oven. Taking proper care of a microwave oven will help to lengthen its lifespan and save you from a lot of repairs.

Maintaining your microwave oven

Well, it’s not particularly difficult to maintain your microwave oven properly and take proper care of the microwave oven. Well, taking care of a microwave oven is nothing special and involves the basics of keeping any electronic equipment or kitchenware clean. It’s an electronic device but also kitchenware. So, when you take care of it, you have to keep in mind to treat it as both.

Ways to maintain your microwave oven to lengthen its life

Let us take a close look at some of the best ways to maintain your prized microwave oven to lengthen its life.

Placement

This is very important and not many people pay enough attention to this. Ovens in India have a countertop design and thus cannot be placed in a cabinet. Thus, you should place it somewhere where it’s far enough from the nearest wall and also has a window nearby, to let out the heat. Overheating can cause a huge number of problems.

Cleaning

A microwave oven needs to be cleaned every day, after every time of use, and also requires an elaborate cleaning once every week. Depending on what you might have cooled in it, choose what you clean it with. The daily cleaning can be done with just a clean, damp cloth and take care of all the splatters. But a weekly cleaning requires lemon or vinegar, and also a bowl of lukewarm water.

Usage of correct dishware

Now, this is very important. Use only your microwave oven dishware for your microwave oven. You can also use a glass bowl but never, ever use metal dishware or china, or plastic. Using dishware that is not suited for use in a  microwave oven will cause a huge number of problems. You should also strictly avoid wooden objects.

Take care of the door

Never put too much pressure on the door and never put too much strain on the hinges of the door. Don’t slam it shut. When you pull it open or shut it close, you should do it with extreme care. Remember, the door is the simplest but also the most important part of a microwave oven. Proper functioning of the door is absolutely necessary.

Take proper care of the buttons

Again, the buttons are the second most important part of a microwave oven, externally. Without buttons, you will not be able to operate a microwave oven. Press them lightly and wait for the machine to respond. Do not operate the buttons in a hurry or keep pressing them or press and hold them for too long. Release the button when the machine reads your command and responds accordingly.

Don’t run it empty

This is the last but not the least of the precautions you should keep in mind when you operate a microwave oven. Never, ever run a microwave oven empty. It can cause overheating or internal burn marks. It wouldn’t hurt if it is run for a short time but don’t ruin it for a long time. Running it empty can cause major damages.

Conclusion

Thus, now you know what to do to lengthen the life of your microwave oven and thus take proper care of your microwave oven. Taking proper care of your microwave oven will go a long way in lengthening the life of your microwave oven.
